Cryptophthalmos
Cryptophthalmos is the medical term used to refer to the apparent absence of eyes due to the failure of normal eyelid development.
This rare congenital (i.e. condition present since birth) anomaly exists in three forms, which are
- complete,
- incomplete, and
- abortive.
When present, cryptophthalmos usually affects both eyes.
