The theme of the Oxford Tarot is the beautiful city of Oxford, England, and its history.
Interpretation of this Relationship Tarot Spread::
Card 1 : The Strength of the Relationship ?
Sometimes depicted as chains, this card asks what self-imposed limitations are holding you back ?
Self-imposed or not, this card suggests that something has contrained you or your situation.
Negative thinking can be both addictive and highly destructive. Personal "chains" may include pessimism, unnecessary feelings of guilt, excessive dependency, or any other unhealthy habits of thought or action. Traditional interpretations include over-focus on, or even obsession with, one's own power, money, or sex.
Identify the traps in your life - especially those that are really due to your own obstinate attitude.
Also resist any temptation to use your influence to manipulate or adversely affect or entrap others: To do so will rebound on yourself and contribute to keeping you "stuck" in an unwanted situation.
Card 2 : The Weakness of the Relationship ?
Help is on hand from your guardian angel.
You only need to ask.
Hope, joy, protection, good fortune, and spirituality are available on request. A bright star can be a guiding light. The heavens are offering all the guidance and assistance needed - or simply desired. With the cosmos poised to pour blessings, now is the time to ask for help with your endeavours.
This is a particularly good card to draw if difficulties and set-backs have been experienced in the recent past. Sometimes it can be difficult to see and expect improvements in situations of turmoil, depression or unhappiness. If this experience is relevant, smile broadly. New options and ways out of problems should be expected.
Ask your guardian angels to be with you and your world may improve quickly and dramatically.
Card 3 : The Reality of the Relationship ?
It is time for prudence rather than excess.
This card indicates the virtue
of moderation and heralds a period of quiet harmony.
This is a healing card. (In some decks a large angel or archangel is depicted on the Temperance card.)
Security can be obtained by managing situations carefully, steering a middle course, avoiding prejudice, applying discretion, and compromising if necessary. It may be necessary to be frugal for a while but this need not involve struggle: It is possible to enjoy what one has without always striving for more - and the thoughts and emotions of enjoying the blessings we already have is said to attract more blessings (not necessarily of the same form) into our lives.
Remember the expression that "time heals". Enjoying the harmony of the present may indeed quell past or irrelevant traumas and banish them from ones active emotions.
Advice often offered by this card includes "everything in moderation - including moderation".
Card 4 : The Happiness of the Relationship ?
Many talents have been developed and skills acquired and refined. The goal is within reach.
There is much more than just academic success involved. In addition to problem-solving abilities, resources of diplomacy and wisdom are also conveyed.
This card signifies the ability to master new projects and challenges using imagination, creativity, and self-reliance on the considerable skills already developed. It is all about opportunities to use one's talents. There is also support and encouragement at hand to refine and extend one's capabilities even further via further training or study.
There are many possible goals to aim for - and they all involve aiming high.
Card 5 : The Key to the Future of the Relationship ?
Tradition, orthodoxy, compliance with convention, and concern with "form over function" are key themes.
Dominance of the established hierarchy is also suggested by this card.
This may apply to the hierarchy within the traditional Christian churches or other religions, or to other types of organizations such as businesses (employers), educational institutions (including schools and universities), or even military or inter-governmental organizations. Serious situations involving a "higher authority" are often involved and may take the form of a christening, Bar Mitzvah, matriculation, the formalities of examinations, graduation, or official tasks such as completing tax forms or making witness statements. Creativity is not generally appropriate and it may be best to just do what has to be done - in the manner expected.
There may be feelings of timidity, compliance or even servitude involved in this situation. What makes you feel this way ? Be aware of your own immense value in the world - even in situations in which it is not appropriate to demonstrate your creativity publicly at this particular time.
Remember that the tarot is intended to act as useful insight and food for thought but it cannot predict or control your future. The point of power is always in the present moment. You always have the possibility to make changes beginning with thoughts, attitudes, and emotions.
