This 'Past, Present, Future' reading uses the Oxford Tarot's Major Arcana with cards in the upright orientation only.
The Oxford Tarot Deck:
The theme of the Oxford Tarot is the beautiful city of Oxford, England, and its history.
Interpretation of the Past, Present, Future, Tarot Spread:
As the title of this spread suggests, the first card (on the left) relates to the situation in the past, the second card (in the middle) relates to the situation at the moment, and the third card (on the right) relates to the situation developing into the future if deliberate changes are not made to change this situation.
Card 1 : Past ?
Sometimes depicted as chains, this card asks what
self-imposed limitations are holding you back ?
Self-imposed or not, this card suggests that something has contrained
you or your situation.
Negative thinking can be both addictive and highly
destructive.
Personal "chains"
may include pessimism, unnecessary feelings of guilt, excessive dependency,
or any other unhealthy habits of thought or action. Traditional interpretations
include
over-focus on, or even obsession with, one's own power, money, or sex.
Identify the traps in your life - especially
those that are really due to your own obstinate attitude.
Also resist any
temptation to use your influence
to
manipulate
or
adversely
affect
or entrap
others: To do so will rebound on yourself and contribute to keeping you
"stuck" in an unwanted situation.
Card 2 : Present ?
The sun is out and shining brightly.
Rays of sunshine and happiness illuminate the people and issues
involved. There may be an enjoyable time outdoors
with friends and/or children, possibly at a beach or beauty spot. Many traditional
tarot decks include an image of a happy naked child on this card. This can
signify unrestricted pleasures.
The universe
is sending favourable energies of success,
celebration,
joy, optimism,
achievement,
and good fortune. Public recognition, academic success, and/or prosperity
may also be on their way.
Affirm. Achieve. Look forward to further prosperity and joy in all aspects
of this situation.
Card 3 : Future ?
There is a need for psychological space, personal space, and centering oneself.
Traditional tarot decks call this card "The Hermit" and depict
an elderly wise man. This isn't suggesting life as a hermit but just
at the
moment it may help to find some
time
to
reflect
and
re-tune
yourself
to
the
spiritual
dimensions of the universe. Meditate.
Enjoy
the silence.
Go
within. Sometimes it is helpful to temporarily withdraw from life in order
to find one's true centre.
A break from one's daily routine may be all that
is needed.
Find a way to reconnect with your universe.
Daily meditation is recommended by many authors in the fields of
spirituality, spiritual and psychic development, and self help. Some
popular techniques involve quietening the mind by concentrating on either a
point in
space, a single thought, a single thought process (which could be as simple
as counting slowly), or a specific mantra. Such techniques are sometimes used
to reduce stress, for psychic development, or other purposes. Finding out more
about
meditation and
meditative approaches might be very helpful right now.
Remember that the tarot is intended to act as useful insight and food for thought but it cannot predict or control your future. The point of power is always in the present moment. You always have the possibility to make changes beginning with thoughts, attitudes, and emotions.
