E308 is an additive approved by the EU (European Union). It is used as a synthetic antioxidant in food and drink products.
The common name for E308 is gamma–tocopherol. Gamma–tocopherol is biologically less active than alpha–tocopherol (E307).
E308 acts as an antioxidant in fatty products, mostly to prevent olive oil from turning rancid.
Examples of food and drink products that may include E308:
- processed meat
- cheese
- vitamin enriched foods
