Acetone is one of the many chemicals present in cigarettes.

Acetone (also known as propanone, dimethyl ketone, 2-propanone, propan-2-one and beta-ketopropane) is a colourless and flammable liquid at room temperature. It is readily soluble in water and other chemicals, such as ethanol and ether. It is also an important solvent in it's own right. Acetone is a member of a group of chemicals known as ketones.

Acetone is usually the main component of nail polish remover. It may also be used as a superglue remover.

Some health concerns have been expressed about the effects of acetone. For example, some sources suggest that exposure to moderate-to-high amounts of acetone can irritate the eyes and respiratory system, and make people feel dizzy.

Note that the list of chemicals included in this section (see the list on the left) is not a complete list of all the substances found in cigarettes, cigars, and other tobacco products.
