Down Syndrome may also be referred to as "Downs
Syndrome" or "Down's Syndrome".
It is a genetic condition caused by extra genes
from the 21st chromosome. This can result in certain
characteristics such as learning difficulties and
some other developmental delays. However, just like
everyone else, most people with Down's syndrome
learn to walk and talk and many read and write,
go to ordinary schools and lead fulfilling lives.
Down's syndrome is not a disease.
People with Down's syndrome are not ill and do not
"suffer" from the condition.
