What is Botany ?
Botany, also called plant science(s), plant biology or phytology, is the study of plant life. It is a broad, multidisciplinary subject within biology.
The strictest definition of "plant" only includes embryophytes, i.e. "land plants". The many diverse examples of these include seed plants (incl. pines and flowering plants) and free-sporing cryptogams (incl. ferns, clubmosses, liverworts, hornworts and mosses). Although, strictly, fungi are not classed as plants they are often included in introductory courses in botany. One reason for this is the interactions between some plants and fungi in nature.
