The International Year of Chemistry (2011)
Regular visitors to this website will have noticed that we have recently added a Chemistry Section to our existing study pages about the Human Body. Both areas will continue to expand over the next few months.
Did you also know that 2011 is the International Year of Chemistry ?
We are in the process of adding a comprehensive set of study pages about chemistry in order to support and connect with related material about biology, health, diet and fitness. We're delighted to be expanding into the field of chemistry during the International Year of Chemistry.
The video above was mentioned to us on Twitter by @yearodchem.
It's purpose is to inform the general public that chemistry:
- meets the world's needs
- is creative and is building our future
- inspires young people
- celebrates the continued contribution of women to science.
The above short (3min 28 sec) clip attempts to answer the question "Why Chemistry" and does so in a style we hope you'll also enjoy.
About the International Year of Chemistry 2011:
The goals of IYC2011 are to increase the public appreciation of chemistry in meeting world needs, to encourage interest in chemistry among young people, and to generate enthusiasm for the creative future of chemistry. The year 2011 will coincide with the 100th anniversary of the Nobel Prize awarded to Madame Marie Curie—an opportunity to celebrate the contributions of women to science. The year will also be the 100th anniversary of the founding of the International Association of Chemical Societies, providing a chance to highlight the benefits of international scientific collaboration.
